Shoot, I don't remember what he actually said! ...How many points should I take off for talking too much?" These are common - if not often verbalized -- challenges many teachers face when it comes to assessing class discussion. And for good reason! Great discussion is a deeply human experience that is hard to define, track, and ultimately quantify. So what assessment models are out there for formative and summative approaches to assessing discussion?
